With any literary work that becomes a classic there is always a
demand for a sequel and so it was with Rosemary's Baby. Levin
dedicated Son of Rosemary
to Mia Farrow. The first problem to be broached was - What have
Rosemary and her son been doing for all these years? Levin solved
it beautifully. When Rosemary's friend, Hutch, got too close to
finding out the truth about the coven in the original novel, the
witches combined their energies to put Hutch into a coma that
lasted for months. And so it is with Rosemary. She's been taking a
little nap.
Son of Rosemary opens with terror gripping you from the very first page. Those of you who have read Rosemary's Baby will remember Dr.Stanley Shand, the member of the coven who played the recorder, an instrument somewhat like a flute. Dr. Shand is the last living member of the coven. At the very moment when he is hit and killed by a taxi, Rosemary Reilly awakes from a 27 year coma.
Her last memory is of an attempt to take her son and get away from the coven. Now there are questions to be answered. What happened to the coven? What's occurred while she was in the coma? Where is her son? And what the devil does 'Roast Mules' really mean? For 27 years you've waited for the answers and now, as the new millennium begins, you're going to have more to worry about than the Y2K problem. Plans laid long ago are about to come to fruition. The waiting is over, the whole world is in danger, and Rosemary is going to go through an awaking even more shocking than coming out of a 27-year coma. Brace yourself ! None of the answers are going to be what you expected them to be.
